Conservation Field Worker I (Lanai)
Pono Pacific Land Management, LLC was founded with a vision of helping Hawai‘i’s conservation agencies and landowners. Since 2000, we have been providing specialized services to a wide variety of clients in almost every ecosystem in Hawaiʻi, primarily including:
- Native habitat restoration and landscape maintenance
- Invasive species eradication
- Ungulate-proof/predator-proof fence construction
- Predator and ungulate control
- Trail construction & maintenance
We are currently seeking applicants for the Field Worker I position. A Field Worker I carries out general conservation field work under close supervision by a Field Supervisor and/or Project Manager. The ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule similar to an “on-call” availability. A Field Worker I will act in the best interest of the company, act in the best interest of other employees, and act in a fair, safe, effective, and legal manner.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fully vaccinated for COVID 19
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
- Reliable vehicle or other reliable form of transportation
- Ability to read, write, and understand (English) equipment and product labels for safety
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Follow directions while working in small groups or independently
- Maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
- Maintain excellent communication, verbal and written (English)
- Willing and able to perform physically challenging work in harsh conditions for 8-10 hours a day
- Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds
- Ability to pass a background check and/or gain military base access clearance
- Ability to camp in remote areas for multiple days at a time and/or travel occasionally
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Fence installation experience
- Tree felling experience
- Familiarity operating power tools such as chainsaws, weed trimmers, etc.
- Familiarity with both native and invasive species identification
- Interest in preserving Hawaiʻi’s native plants, animals, and ecosystems
- State of Hawaiʻi Pesticide Applicator license
- Experience operating/working with machinery (excavator, skid steer, etc.)
- Helicopter experience (passenger and sling loading)
SCHEDULE
- Full time (30-40 hours per week, largely dependent upon weather and projects). This position requires a flexible schedule. Needs the ability to work 1-2+ weeks at a time, and be down from work for similar times.
COMPENSATION
- Depends on experience/qualifications and project (minimum starting: $18 per hour)
