Job Description

Island School ( seeks a Development Associate.  Reporting to the Director of Development, the successful candidate will build relationships with members of the community to garner philanthropic support for Island School. Fund raising activities include attending meetings in the community (e.g., Chamber of Commerce, various service clubs, etc.) as a representative of Island School; preparing proposals for grants, maintaining a development database, helping organize various fund-raising events, working with volunteers, meeting with prospective donors, preparing drafts of reports for the Board of Directors, and assisting with data entry, marketing, public relations, printed materials, proofing, and performing other duties as may be assigned in relation to support of Island School.

 Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of 490+ students. Qualifications include:

  • Skills/Knowledge: Must work well with a variety of constituents,  in person, using email, through letters and memos, and by phone; also, must be able to use technologies, including word processing, relational data-bases, and online tools; also, must be familiar with grant-writing processes, including a statement of need, an indication of activities to be undertaken, and the development of a budget using categories required by granting agencies;

  • Education/Training: College degree preferred.  Minimum requirement is familiarity with advancement/development office operations and with computer programs related to development work.

  • Experience: References from a previous employer(s) certifying reliability and satisfactory performance is desirable.
