Job Description
Island School seeks an Elementary Teaching Assistant with a commitment to support our elementary faculty in a high-inspiring independent school setting to begin July 20, 2026 for the 2026-2027 school year. This is a one-year only position. Pay range for a full-time Elementary Teaching Assistant role for 26-27 depending on years of experience: $34,000 - $45,000/year. (Salaried position)
Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of just over 430+ students. The school is located on the rural island of Kauaʻi, the northwestern most inhabited island in the Hawaiian archipelago, which, due to its stunning natural beauty, is known as the "Garden Island." The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues with the desire to be part of an independent school community. Additional responsibilities include duty supervision, ‘ohana education meetings, and full participation in the life of the school. 2+years of relevant work experience preferred.
It is expected the successful candidate would:
- Assist and actively support students in the classroom with the teacher during instruction
- Provide instruction and student support as assigned by Lead Teacher and/or Student Services Team
- Progress monitor students in math, reading, and writing
- Monitor students during morning and lunch breaks
- Accompany students to enrichment classes
- Occasionally serve as the back-up for our after-school care (Do Drop Inn) from 3:00-5:15
- Perform additional duties as needed
In addition, a candidate should possess the following personal and professional qualifications:
- Experience working with elementary-age students
- Ability to manage students and appropriately redirect and give constructive feedback regarding behavior
- Ability to follow guidance and instruction of lead teacher
- Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision
- Associate’s or Bachelorʻs Degree preferred
