Emergency Shelter Coordinator

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Emergency Shelter Coordinator to join our Homeless and Housing Department. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting individuals experiencing homelessness by ensuring the safe operation of our emergency shelter facility. Working under the direction of the Program Director,  you will be responsible for maintaining a secure, clean, and welcoming environment while upholding program policies and providing essential services, especially case management,  to shelter guests. This position requires someone who is committed to serving vulnerable populations with dignity and respect while managing the day-to-day operations of our shelter facility.

Responsibilities

Ensure the Emergency Shelter facility is maintained in a clean, safe, and hazard-free condition at all times, reporting any potential safety concerns to supervisors immediately

Monitor and enforce all Emergency Shelter policies and procedures, ensuring guests understand and adhere to program rules, rights, and responsibilities

Supervise in-house volunteers and complete operational tasks when volunteers are unavailable
 

Maintain order within the shelter by consistently enforcing policies, observing for potentially volatile situations, diffusing incidents as they arise, and exercising appropriate intervention when necessary

Acknowledge and appropriately screen all visitors entering the shelter property

Maintain accurate and current intake records, program applications, guest files, attendance sheets, and inventory documentation, with a focus on bi-weekly case management as a top priority. Development of Housing Plans with clients with a goal of permanent housing. 

Practice and instruct others in the use of universal precautions and safety protocols

Enforce curfew policies, monitor late entries, and manage suspensions and terminations as warranted

Conduct locker confiscations when requested and report inappropriate behavior through proper channels

Prepare, maintain, and file all required reports, forms, and documentation

Plan and conduct appropriate activities for shelter guests

Assist in recruiting community partners and program participants

Attend staff meetings, training classes, workshops, and other meetings as assigned

Perform other duties as required, with flexibility to work varied hours as needed

Ability to schedule work, events, programs, and activities effectively

Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritization skills

Proficiency with spreadsheet software and word processing software

Experience with standard office equipment and supplies

One year of supervisory experience preferred
