Job Description

Island School (ischool.org) seeks an English Teacher with a commitment to teaching in a high-inspiring independent school setting.  A full-time position includes teaching five classes (usually 2-3 courses) in English in grades 6-12.  The position begins in late July for the 2023-2024 academic year.  

Island School is a WASC/HAIS accredited PK-12 independent day school with a total enrollment of almost 500 students. The school is located on the rural island of Kaua`i, the northwestern most inhabited island in the Hawaiian archipelago. The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching English, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching high school English; hold a minimum of a B.A degree in English or Education. Additional responsibilities may include full participation in the life of the school, being an advisor, leading a club or other initiative, and/or coaching. 2 + years of relevant teaching experience in a non-profit, independent school preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group.
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to motivate and manage students.
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, and confidence working with students.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision
