Job Description



John A. Burns School of Medicine. Regular, Part-Time (50% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the John A. Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM), Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Health Careers Opportunity Program (HCOP), located on the island of Kauai.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY:  $1,324.50/Mon (@50% FTE). 

DUTIES: Researches existing health careers and health sciences recruitment activities.  Teaches the College and Career Success Course and disseminate information to students and adult learners interested in health careers. Coordinates travel accommodations between health care students and JABSOM Rural Coordinator. Coordinates housing and car travel. Assists project staff with administrative duties that include preparing materials, organizing meetings, processing travel paperwork and Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA) paperwork. Provides assistance to project staff with coordinating student visits to health professions schools. Organizes meetings/retreats for parties, collaborates on recruitment activities and health education for student activities. Assists with developing newsletters, social media posts and web page materials.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university in Education, Health Sciences or Communications. EXPERIENCE: Up to one (0-1) year of experience working with K-12 students, adult and non-traditional learners, or health care trainees in related programs. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Basic knowledge and understanding of targeted populations and communities. Basic knowledge of health education network and health agencies network. Ability to coordinate and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.  Ability to plan and organize activities, meetings and programs. Ability to connect students with services and programs. Ability to develop activities influenced by targeted population and communities.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. Expertise in word processing.  Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i’s No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with AHEC, HCOP, or Community Learning Centers. Experience working with students of diverse and/or disadvantaged backgrounds.
