Job Description
The PV Draftsperson is responsible for creating plansets for all residential PV projects. This role is responsible for creating PV designs for residential jobs by optimizing energy output, cost efficient designs while being code compliant. PV Draftsperson is to prepare complete permit sets including but not limited to cover sheets, roof maps, electrical schematics, elevation drawings, renders, and production output models etc using any tools such as autocad, vizio, sketch up, etc.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrates the highest level of professionalism and courtesy when interacting with colleagues, customers, and vendors
- Minimum of seven years experience in managing teams in building and constructing solar, electrical, roofing, or other similar trades and/or equivalent education
- Experience in the overall integration of design engineering, construction, start-up, close-out, turnover and subsequent O&M of a variety of construction projects
- 30 hour OSHA training and certification
- Familiar with local and national building and electrical codes and permitting
- Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret plans for solar installations including but not limited to rooftop plans and Electrical SLDs.
- Valid Hawaii issued driver’s license and a clean driver’s record (i.e., no DUIs in the past five years, no speeding tickets over 20 MPH, etc.)
- Proactive in collaborating with management in creating and fine tuning company standards and procedures to be adapted in policies and the ERP
- Experience in working with Microsoft word applications, Google suite, Netsuite, etc.
- Follows, promotes and enforces all company operations standards, policies and processes and uses company wide adopted software
- Positive outlook even when challenged with physically or mentally demanding situations
- Proficient at autocad, Sketch up, Vizio, Excel, word, Netsuite, Google Drive
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and ability to work well under pressure
- Critical thinking, mathematical, and technical skills
- Self directed and maintain time management
- PV design knowledge
- Engineering, BA and/or minimum of 5 years related professional experience.
- Analytical skills, and administration skills
- Experience and knowledge in Federal and Hawaii State Law including: EEO, ADA, OSHA, TDI, FMLA, WC, FLSA, UI and Labor Relations
- Certificate or licensing in engineering or drafting is a plus
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for gathering requirements and data needed to properly create designs from site visits by collaborating with site auditors. This may include but is not limited to information about the construction site, such as elevation, access roads, and utilities, along with project-specific information, such as dimensions of roofs, any obstructions, materials, existing electrical service, shading, governing codes and or regulations.
- Take guidance and report to the Engineering Manager.
- Prepare architectural drawings working from rough drawings and specifications, drafters use computer-aided drafting (CAD, Vizio, SketchUp, etc.) software to prepare full-scale and detailed drawings and potential renders. These drawings specify the project’s dimensions, including roof sizes and elevations, carport sizes and provide contractors and construction crews with information on materials and building plans.
- Responsible for updating designs and modifying designs based on new information or at the request of the customer or residential operations team. While updating drawings, the PV Draftsperson is to ensure that changes do not have unforeseen effects on other construction elements and maintains code compliance. Also to maintain nomenclature by properly numbering and naming drawings and keeping records in the google drive and update netsuite as necessary.
- Performing calculations and checking design for accuracy. These calculations can include vital elements such as load-bearing beams within a structure, system modeling to verify or determine conductor sizing, short-circuit analysis, arc flash hazard, overcurrent coordination, etc. In addition,
- PVD is responsible for checking design for building codes, electrical codes and manufacturer specifications.
- May on occasion be required to travel to a project locations to gather information and verify certain aspects of the designs.
- Providing information to contractors and construction crews throughout the planning and building processes. This can include providing detailed drawings of certain construction elements and answering questions that arise while the blueprints are being reviewed.
- Maintains a strong knowledge of local building and electrical codes and standards
- Assist in cost reduction and value engineering efforts to ensure quality, safety, and code-compliance is maintained while driving down the cost of installation.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
