Job Description

Island School seeks a music teacher with a commitment to independent school education in a college preparatory environment. The part-time position includes teaching music in the elementary school, one middle school class, and one high school ukelele class.  

The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues, and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for teaching music, and demonstrate effective classroom management strategies. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in teaching music.


Minimum Qualifications include:

  • Experience working with elementary through high school age students

  • Ability to manage students and appropriately correct behavior

  • A sense of humor, warmth of personality, and energy

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with parents, students, faculty, and staff.

  • Ability to motivate and manage students.

  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, and confidence working with students.

  • College degree in music,  preferred
