Job Description


Position Title:          Prevention Educator




Program:                  Sexual Assault Services/Youth Services




Responsible to:      Director of Prevention Services



Classification:       ​ Exempt

1.    Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with people of various ages, cultures and backgrounds.


2.    Maintain effective working relationships and be a team player.


3.    Demonstrate excellent customer service skills on the phone, in person and on-line.


4.    Assume individual responsibility and work collaboratively.


5.    Utilize good organizational and multi-tasking skills and be able to handle multiple priority tasks using independent judgment.


6.    Perform all duties in compliance with the laws and regulation of the State of Hawai`i and the United States government.




Specific Qualifications:




1.    Minimum 2 years working with youth of various ages.


2.    Substantial experience in coordinating and providing presentations to youth and adults.


3.    Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks as assigned.


4.    Experience working with a variety of people.


5.    Experience organizing public events.


6.    Comprehensive understanding of issues related to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault.






Education & Technical Skills:




1.    Minimum AA Degree, BA degree preferred in communication, education, social work, Women’s Studies or related field.


2.    Skills working on Windows based PC.


3.    Experience collecting and reporting data.










Coordinate delivery of prevention education presentations to schools, businesses, agencies, and community groups. Assist with developing appropriate materials to be used with agencies and businesses. Coordinate activities and/or events to encourage community.








  1. Work with flexible schedule and the potential of increased hours.
  2. Prepare and provide educational presentations and training to general public audiences of all ages and professionals in compliance with statewide curriculum.
  3. Prepare educational and promotional material for distribution via the media and brochures.
  4. Establish and maintain liaison with community groups, businesses, and agencies in order to promote educational programming, professional training and encourage utilization of YWCA of Kauai services.
  5. Attend and participate in any state, and local meetings, boards, etc. as directed by the Program Director that addresses sexual violence prevention and increasing community awareness about the YWCA of Kauai mission and services.
  6. Provide “crisis counseling” in situations of disclosure due to material covered in presentations.
  7. Plan and coordinate community events designed to raise awareness of violence issues.
  8. Perform other functions as needed or assigned.




Additional Requirements:




  1. Valid driver’s license, vehicle and proof of insurance.
  2. Willing and able to travel around the island for meetings.
  3. Willing and able to travel off-island for training and meetings.
