Job Description
Island School seeks an Upper School Comprehensive Counselor for grades 6-10 for the 2026-2027 school year with a commitment to independent school education. This full-time position requires providing support to students who are struggling personally and academically in grades 6-10 and working closely with teachers and families to advocate for student success. Working with students, teachers, and Deans, the US Counselor will be the lead coordinator of the US Advisory program curriculum and establish positive relationships in order to ensure a collaborative effort in serving students, particularly those who would benefit from academic and social-emotional intervention. Pay range for a full-time Comprehensive Counselor, Grades 6-10, for 26-27, depending on years of experience and education:  $65,000-$85,000

The successful candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues and a desire to be part of an independent school community. Candidates should have experience differentiating academic and social-emotional support to work effectively with a range of learners, demonstrate a passion for working with adolescents, and possess social-emotional curriculum design experience. Ideal candidates will have prior experience in working with both middle and high school-age students. Additional responsibilities include duty supervision, ‘ohana education meetings, and full participation in the life of the school. 5+years of relevant teaching experience preferred.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • A master’s degree in counseling, education, or a related field and current counseling licensing, with intent to maintain licensure
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and in a group; ability to design and implement social-emotional and health programming
  • Experience assessing student learning needs and supporting families and students to understand needs
  • Strong work ethic, adaptability, generous spirit, sense of humor, and confidence working with adults and youth
  • Commitment to and alignment with the School's mission and vision
