Job Description



Vanguard Center of High Performance Computing.  Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Maui High Performance Computing Center (MHPCC), Department of Defense High Performance Computing Modernization Program’s “Vanguard Center for High Performance Computing”, located at the Maui Research and Technology Park (MRTP) in Maui, Hawai‘i. This position will conduct research under the University of Hawai‘i Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) Task Orders.  Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws. 




DUTIES:  Performs management of physical plant, maintenance operations and safety program of the VCHPC.   This includes building scheduling and maintenance, custodial, safety, security, construction, and grounds maintenance. Coordinates and implements all work necessary to maintain the building that constitutes the VCHPC facility (approximately 9,000 square feet). 


PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:  Associate’s Degree from an accredited community college.  EXPERIENCE:  Three to five (3-5) years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.  ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:  Knowledge of facility maintenance, engineering, safety, sanitation/cleanliness, furnishing and equipment management, space assignment and arrangement, grounds and landscaping maintenance, and attendant functions. Knowledge of Federal/State Occupational Safety and Health Law. Knowledge of emergency/disaster/recovery plans.  Knowledge of safe operation of active electro-mechanical and energized high voltage utility systems. Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Ability to coordinate all facilities maintenance aspects of 9,000 square feet of facility space, housing High Performance Computing (HPC) equipment, training and conference facilities and office space.  Ability to administer safety and health programs. Ability to use PC and MS Office suite.  Ability to respond, on an on call basis, to address facility system failures 24/7. Ability to address facility requests in a timely and courteous manner. Ability to coordinate the activities of contractors and vendor personnel.  Ability to communicate effectively.  Must possess a valid driver’s license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver’s insurance equivalent to Hawai‘i's No-Fault Driver’s Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Post Offer/Employment Condition:  Must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within sixty (60) days of hire and must be able to obtain a final security clearance within six (6) months of hire.  Must possess Certification in First Aid/CPR (or be able to obtain and maintain the certificate following the training provided within twelve (12) months from date of hire and maintain throughout duration of employment).  Must be able to obtain Safety Training in Hawai‘i Occupational Safety & Health Law, and other certifications as required by policy or regulations and maintain throughout duration of employment.  PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:  Medium physical effort requiring full range of motion. Requires handling, including the lifting and carrying of objects and equipment weighing up to fifty (50) pounds unassisted.  Must be able to climb ladders, and stairs.  Must be able to work in small (3-4ft.) crawl spaces as well as in confined, poorly ventilated works areas. SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:  Future facilities upgrades may require space augmentation through construction and/or acquisition of off-site facilities. Experience in construction or upgrade of facilities.  Knowledge of renewable energy technologies.  Ability to identify energy saving opportunities for continuous improvement in energy efficiencies.
