Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC)
Laboratory Assistant

$2,835 - $3,447 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide laboratory assistance and support, including technical laboratory work and laboratory site/test preparation for the microbiological and molecular testing activities of the Biological Response Section (BRS) and performs other duties as required.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent, with classes in biological science and laboratory sessions preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:  1.  Experience that demonstrates the ability to read and follow oral and written instructions and perform simple arithmetic computations including multiplication and division.  2.  Two (2) years of progressively responsible laboratory work experience that has been provided the applicant with practical knowledge of laboratory functions, apparatus and equipment, methods and procedures, and tests.

 

KNOWLEDGE: 

Fundamental principles of general biology, arithmetic, chemistry, routine laboratory practices and aseptic techniques; supplies and equipment used in biological laboratory; the preparation of standard solutions, reagents, and culture media.

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

Understand and follow oral and/or written instructions; operate biological laboratory equipment including but not limited to an autoclave, analytical balance, pH meter, automatic glassware washers, and pipettors; prepare standard and molecular solutions, reagents, and culture media.
