Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Microbiologist (Serology)

$4,600 -$5,600 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment.  The primary purpose of this position is to provide resources for the surveillance of viral agents in the State including performing or referring for testing specimens for antigen detection procedures and other tests to demonstrate the presence of viral, chlamydial, and rickettsial agents.  This position researches, develops, modifies, evaluates and recommends new and/or current techniques and diagnostic methods in support of these activities to provide critical epidemiological information for the Department’s diseases control and intervention programs.

 

This position is cross-trained and provides coverage to other areas of the Medical Microbiology Branch and provides surge testing capacity to the State Laboratories Division, as needed.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:    Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, bacteriology, or biology.

 

EXPERIENCE:   Two (2) years of professional experience in the detection, isolation, identification, cultivation, use and/or control of microorganisms.  Such experience may have been gained in such scientific disciplines as bacteriology, immunology, serology, mycology, parasitology, virology or other related areas of science.

 

LICENSE:  Incumbent must have a valid State of Hawaii Clinical Laboratory Specialist or Medical Technologist License or equivalent as required under the provisions of the Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR) Chapter 11-110.1.  Incumbent is subject to personnel qualifications outlined in the federal register 42 CFR 493.1423 (CLIA).
