Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Molecular Biologist

$5,178 - $6,299 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment.  The primary purpose of this position is to independently perform a variety of highly complex analyses employing advanced molecular detection methods in support of disease investigations.  This position performs sequencing methodologies and data analyses.  This position also researches, evaluates, modifies when necessary, and recommends new and/or current techniques and diagnostic methods to support the Department’s disease control and intervention programs.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, molecular biology, biology or similar laboratory science.  Post baccalaureate degree in molecular biology (Master’s or Ph.D.) preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:  

1.  Three (3) years of professional experience in microbiology, molecular biology or similar

      laboratory science.  A Master’s degree with a major in microbiology, molecular biology or similar

      laboratory science may be substituted for one-year experience, and a Ph.D. major in

      microbiology, molecular biology or similar laboratory science may be substituted for two years of

      experience.

 

2.  Experience in next generation sequencing/whole genome sequencing using the Illumina MiSeq or

      equivalent is preferred.

 

3.  Experience with bioinformatics tools and pipelines for data analysis is preferred.

 

4.  Extensive experience with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) is preferred.
