Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity for Infectious Diseases (ELC) Quality Assurance & Quality Control Specialist
$4,858 - $6,922 per month, salary commensurate w/ training and experience
Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. The function of this organization unit is to provide laboratory surveillance data and strain characterization of influenza to Departmental programs and the World Health Organization (WHO). This unit provides isolation and identification of viral agents of public health importance and performs antigen detection procedures to demonstrate the presence of viral and chlamydial agents. The unit also provides consultative and reference laboratory services to Departmental programs, other governmental agencies, private physicians, and institutions.
This position is responsible for developing, establishing, and maintaining quality assurance (QA) programs by consulting with the supervisors in the Medical Microbiology Branch. This position also is responsible for establishing and improving the quality system of the Virology Section and Bacteriology and Parasitology Section to ensure they meet quality assurance standards to ensure dependable laboratory results.
Minimum Qualification(s)
EDUCATION: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in medical technology/medical laboratory science, microbiology, bacteriology, or related science.
EXPERIENCE: 1. Two (2) years professional work experience in private sector laboratory and/or in a public health laboratory such as a licensed microbiologist, licensed technologist.
2. Two (2) years professional work experience in a CLIA laboratory setting and/or College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation preferred.
LICENSE: Valid State of Hawaii Clinical Laboratory Medical Technologist License or equivalent as required under the provisions of 42CFR493.1423 and the Hawaii Administrative Rules (HAR) Chapter 11-110.1 preferred. The federal provisions are part of the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA-88).
