TOXICOLOGIST

$6177-$8455 per month,salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, temporary appointment. This position is in the Department of Health (DOH), Environmental Health Administration, and is assigned to the Office of Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response (HEER).HEER is responsible for the development and implementation of the Hawaii Environmental Response Law, HRS 128D.The HEER Office is responsibleforimplementing,coordinating,a​ndoverseeingtheDOH’sroleastheState’s lead agency for responding to spills of petroleum and hazardous substances on land or inwater.Thisposition,aspartoftheHazardEva​luationstaff,providesriskassessment expertisetoallenvironmentalprograms(forex​ample,DrinkingWaterorCleanAir Branches)intheDOHEnvironmentalHealthAdmin​istration,andprovideshealthadvice to other state and county agencies.This position requires initiative, knowledge, resourcefulness and leadership in order to review, understand and interpret highly complex technical, scientific and health issues.

 

 

MinimumQualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:PossessionofaDoctoralDegreei​nToxicology,Pharmacology,Biochemistry, Physiology, or a closely related specialty.

 

EXPERIENCE:AnexpertwithaDoctoratemusth​avethreeyearsofresponsible,professional experience, of which at least two years must have been related to human health risk assessment activities.This position requires an expert with a doctorate because of the specializedtechnicalresponsibilities.Thei​ndividualisexpectedtorepresenttheStateort​he DOHasanexpertwitnessincourtandpublicheari​ngs.Theexpertmusthaveamulti-media (air, water, soil) range of knowledge or experience in scientific and health disciplines.
