Job Description

 Nature of the Job: The Guide position is an hourly, “on-call” position.  PRA cannot guarantee tour demand.  Guides will be scheduled for shifts on a seniority and availability basis.  “On-call” means that guides may be scheduled for tour shifts that may not be filled with guests and therefore may not result in work.

 

Job Function: To lead guests in an outdoor adventure in a safe, timely and effective manner. Duties include, but are not limited to: safety instruction, outfitting guests in proper gear, entertainment, verbal constructive feedback, lunch preparation, constant monitoring of guests’ health and safety, working knowledge of emergency procedures and sharing accurate information about the state of Hawaii, the island of Kauai, the Princeville Ranch and the flora and fauna thereof.

 

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership

1)                  Practice safe techniques to protect guests and self at all times

2)                  Provide sound leadership by using clear directions and fostering teamwork

3)                  Communicate ideas for procedural improvements regularly to Supervisor

4)                  Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings

5)                  Communicate with coworkers effectively

6)                  Set a good example by adhering to company policies

Customer Relations

1)                  Build positive relationships with every customer

2)                  Elevate conflict resolution to management as needed

3)                  Ensure top quality service is provided at all times

4)                  Handle emergencies professionally

Other Duties

1)                  Treat all company equipment and property with respect

2)                  Ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of assigned tour gear

3)                  Report all broken, missing or unsightly conditions of gear immediately

4)                  Report all incidents or injuries immediately according to current procedure

 

Job Requirements

Experience:     Previous outdoor adventure leadership experience, especially in the tourism field

Experience with leading groups in hiking, kayaking, challenge course, ropes course, mountaineering or climbing

                   ​     Other types of leadership experience may be considered

 

Must have:      Excellent ability to relate with people of all types, backgrounds and ages

Ability to work outdoors from six to twelve hours in all manner of Kauai weather

Ability to “Be Prepared”: to pack appropriately for needs of self and guests

Ability to handle a myriad of challenging guest needs with confidence and professionalism

Ability to understand and implement company policies and procedures

Ability to lift 30 pounds safely

Ability to carry a 30 pound backpack for six hours while hiking, kayaking or zipping

Ability to learn technical use of ropes/challenge course equipment

Valid driver’s license and clean driving abstract

Ability to safely operate vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions

                   ​     Current First Aid and CPR certification as evidenced by providing copies
