Note:  Hiring rate will be based on availability of funds, the applicant’s qualifications and other relevant factors.

 

JOB DUTIES:  This permanent position is responsible for directing clinic operations and for planning, implementing and evaluating nutrition services of the WIC target population within the assigned geographic service area. Duties include 1) Developing an annual Nutrition Services Plan that provides nutrition services to meet the needs of the target population; 2) Provides direct nutrition services (i.e. nutrition assessment, diet counseling, high risk care plan, etc.) and breastfeeding counseling/support; 3) Plans, conducts and evaluates nutritional in-service training for Public Health Nutritionists and paraprofessional staff in the WIC clinic; 4) Supervise staff, evaluates staff performance and provides re-training as needed; 5) Participates in Monthly Coordinator's meetings and other meetings/workshops/conferences as assigned; and 6) Prepares oral and written reports of activities at regular intervals and outreach.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:  To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour work week.

 

1.      Education Requirement:  A master’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in public health nutrition, or in applied human nutrition with coursework in public or community health (biostatistics, epidemiology, health administration and health planning), and registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

 

2.      Specialized Experience Requirement:  One year specialized experience of progressively responsible professional nutrition experience in a public health program, agency or setting which involved assessing needs, planning, and evaluating nutrition services or working as a nutrition consultant to other professionally trained individuals.

 

3.      Substitutions in Lieu of Education Allowed:  The education requirement for Public Health Nutritionist IV will be deemed to have been met by an applicant 1) possessing a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in food nutritional science, community nutrition, or clinical and community dietetics; 2) registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; 3) and has two and one-half (2-1/2) years of full-time experience as

described in Specialized Experience above.
