Mental Illness/Substance Abuse Coordinator

$5,076 - $6,177 monthly (salary commensurate with training and experience)

 

Exempt, Non-Civil Service, Temporary, Full Time Appointment.  This position, funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) grant, “Maui County Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic – Planning, Development, and Implementation Grant”, (MCCCBHC-PDI) serves as the subject matter expert and consultant to the CCBHC on the area of mental illness/substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and services, and independently provides mental illness/SUD assessments and counseling to individuals served by the CCBHC.  This position also provides coordination, consultation, and support to the CCBHC programs.  Additional responsibilities involve modification of program components affecting the operations of the CCBHC, and the development of training materials and staff training.


Minimum Qualification’s

 

EDUCATION:  Must meet the education requirements for the Substance Abuse Specialist class specifications.  Preferred that the employee:  Meets the requirements to take the exam for certified substance abuse counselor bachelor’s or master’s degree or higher which requires a degree from an accredited school with a major in social work, psychology, counseling psychology, substance abuse counseling, or other counseling or mental health field and provides documentation showing the following information:  A minimum of two hundred seventy hours of substance abuse specific education.  Six hours of education on professional ethics.  Six hours of education on Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 2 (Confidentiality:  Alcohol and Drug Abuse Patient Records).  Six hours of education on HIV and AIDS including issues related to confidentiality of records.

 

EXPERIENCE:  1.  Must meet the experience requirements for the Substance Abuse Specialist class specifications.  2.  Preferred that the employee:  Meets the requirements to take the exam for certified substance abuse counselor which includes:  a.  Completed four thousand hours of clinically supervised work experience providing direct alcohol and drug treatment services at the bachelor level or two thousand hours at the master’s level.  The experience shall be documented by the clinical supervisor.  The clinical supervisor must be employed or contracted by the program or agency in which the work experience is gained.  b.  Provides documentation of four hundred hours of supervised practical training in the Twelve-Core functions are the tasks and skills of screening, intake, orientation, assessment, referral, treatment planning, counseling, crisis intervention, client education, case management, report and record keeping, and consultation as applied to substance abuse clients.  A minimum of twenty hours shall be completed in each of the Twelve Core function areas.  The four hundred hours may be included in the four thousand hours or two thousand hours of experience required in D.1.a., The four hundred hours shall be completed under the supervision of a certified substance abuse counselor.

 

LICENSE:  Possession of a current State of Hawaii Certified Substance Abuse Counselor Certification is preferred.  Possession of a Valid Hawaii State Type 3 Driver’s License is preferred.
