SUMMARY

 

The Nutrition Assistant for WIC is expected to provide breastfeeding education and direct nutritional services to successfully administer the WIC program, a federally funded supplemental nutrition program, at the Waimnalo Health Center (WHC).

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUITES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

v  Support and demonstrate the mission and values of WHC

v  Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with department directors,  

    managers, supervisors, employees, BOD and community leaders in the course     of work.

v  Ability to maintain regular work schedule. This position may be required to work

     flexible or extended hours with minimal advanced notice.

vResponsible for maintaining a high standard of care that meets the needs of the WIC

     clientele at Waimnalo Health Center.  This includes but is not limited to servicing WIC     participants to the best of your ability by:

v  Developing a good rapport with the Waimanalo community especially the WIC

     Participants and WHC patients by facilitating open, honest, and culturally sensitive

     communication with client, families, and members of the health care team.

 

v  Provides comprehensive assessment nutrition planning, client education and counseling and assignment of vouchers to WIC clients.

 

v  Provides individual or group breastfeeding counseling, education, and support to all pregnant, postpartum, and breastfeeding participants Ensures accurate completion of client intake (i.e., immunization forms, Hemoglobin testing (Massimo), consent/authorization forms, referral forms and lab forms.  Refers participants to other sources of health care.

 

v  Ensures at least two nutrition education contacts are offered per certification period.

 

v  Assigning appropriate food packages that best meet the participants needs (i.e... Special formulas, tailored food packages).

 

v  Ensures all client information is documented within the HIWIC system according to WIC guidelines, standards, policies and procedures. Completes at least 12 hours of continuing education credits.

vCommunicates effectively with physicians, nurse practitioners, nutritionist, staff, and

     other allied health care providers in a conscientious and professional manner. Assigns

     high-risk clients to high-risk log so the RD can provide follow-up.

vEnsures compliance with Waimnalo Health Center policy and procedures as outlined

     in the Waimnalo Health Center Employee Handbook, including documentation and

     follow-up.

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

 

v  Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or other health field. 

 

v  Valid certified lactation counselor certification (CLC) preferred

 

v  Two-Step Tuberculosis clearance is required.

 

v  Hepatitis B clearance via immunization records of 3 hepatitis B vaccines and

     hepatitis Bsurface antibody quantitative blood test blood test preferred.
