POSITION DESCRIPTION


POSITION TITLE: Quality Assurance Specialist

STATUS: Exempt

DATE: September 2020

LOCATION: Food Solutions International



POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Operations Manager, this position is responsible for compliance with USDA regulations, product labeling, recipe file maintenance, HACCP, scientific research, development, production technology, quality control, packaging, processing and utilization of foods by performing the following duties:


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Develop and maintain HACCP plans, SOP, SSOP, GMP.
Tests environment and food products for food borne pathogens.
Regularly communicates with USDA inspectors on compliance issues.
Keeps up to date on USDA regulations.
Maintain all required reports, recipes, labels, and records.
Develops food standards, safely and sanitary regulations, and nutrition analysis.
Coordinates food recall program.
Records amount and kinds of ingredients and various test results.
Participate in the Safety Committee.
Works with the kitchen supervisors to monitor all areas of production.
Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

S​cheduling:

Must be able to work any day of the week, Monday through Saturday from 5:30AM-8:30PM.
Physical Ability:

Able to lift 15 to 20 pounds regularly.
Able to sit for 4-5 hours/day.
Mental Ability:

Mathematically inclined: ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, volumetric calculations, and permutations.
Reasoning Ability: ability to apply common sense and sound judgment. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must pass Test for TB and pre-employment physical examination requirements, including drug screening
Environmental Conditions:

Able to work in a production kitchen and/or laboratory environment
Education:

B.S. degree in Food Science and Human Nutrition or 5 years as Quality Assurance in a USDA production facility.
Experience:

Minimum 5 years related experience
Desired Skills:

Knowledge of USDA rules and regulations
HACCP certified
Ability to communicate effectively
Ability to explain research findings in layman's terms
Ability to work independently
