FACILITY ACCESS SPECIALIST II

Salary commensurate w/ training and experience

 

Exempt, non-civil service, full-time, permanent appointment. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct complex reviews of documents under HRS § 103-50, provide technical assistance relating to architectural and transportation accessibility for persons with disabilities.

 

 

Minimum Qualification(s)

 

EDUCATION:  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to architecture or construction design and technical standards.  Architectural or engineering degree is highly desired, although not required.

 

EXPERIENCE:  Minimum of 3 years involved in the area of accessibility design standards for persons with disabilities. 

 

If the Bachelor’s Degree is not in a field related to architecture or construction design and technical standards, person must demonstrate additional expertise or experience in the areas of architecture, engineering, or other design work to demonstrate working knowledge of accessibility design standards.

 

Reviews a range of architectural and engineering blueprints or conceptual designs of highly complex documents that includes structural impracticality and technical infeasibility limitations in consultation with architects, engineers, and other design professionals to ensure that State and county buildings, facilities, and sites are constructed to meet the minimum requirements in the law for access to persons with disabilities, in accordance with HRS §103-50, Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines (ADAAG), Federal Fair Housing Accessibility (FHA) Guidelines, Hawaii Outdoor Developed Areas Accessibility Guidelines (HODAAG) and other guidelines developed or adopted by DCAB.

 

Provides technical assistance on access to buildings, facilities, and sites by responding to written and oral technical design requests from architects, engineers, facility managers, capital improvement project managers, program administrators, and others on the requirements of various guidelines for accessible design.

 

Researches and resolves complex technical questions, including request for interpretive opinions and requests for site specific alternate design requirements on HRS §103-50 projects relating to a particular project or design, by contacting federal, state, county officials, as well as design professionals and manufacturers.
